New London, Conn. - April 26, 2026 - The Springfield College men's track and field team placed third overall at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Saturday afternoon.
No. 9 MIT won the meet with 253 points and was followed by WPI (202), Springfield (125), Babson (87), Coast Guard (78) and Wheaton (50).
Springfield was led by a total of 12 podium finishes and wins from the 4x400-meter relay team of Caleb March (Hampden, Maine), Parker Ruger (Rhinebeck, N.Y.), Luca Kabel (Merrimack, N.H.) and Colin Hansen (Ipswich) and Hansen in the 400-meter dash
March, Ruger, Kabel and Hansen won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:18.80 as Hansen won the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.72. Hansen then took third in the 200-meter dash at 21.65 and Kabel finished seventh clocking a time of 22.14.
Shane Erb (Marion, Iowa) placed second in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a conference record time of 9:15.40. Mike Anderson (Cromwell, Conn.) finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.56 as Ben Cachiguango (Amherst, Mass.) came in fifth in the 400-meter hurdles after clocking 55.74.
Daniel McGlashan (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Mitchell Krasco (Orange, Mass.) finished second and third, respectively, in the triple jump as McGlashan finished with a mark of 14.27-meters and Krasco jumped 14.02-meters. Jamil Manu (Manchester, Conn.) finished fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.90-meters and McGlashan came in seventh with a jump of 1.85-meters.
In the throwing events, Martin Nyagilo (Randolph, Mass.) finished third in the shot put with a throw of 14.31-meters while Bryce Ray (Dayton, Maine) came in sixth with a mark of 13.51-meters. In the discus throw, Peyton Blanchard (Kennebunk, Maine) and Nyagilo finished third and fourth with marks of 41.67-meters and 41.52-meters, respectively.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Tyler Davis (East Hartford, Conn.), Kabel, Raymond Brunson (Durham, N.C.) and Ari Papadimitriou (Shelton, Conn.) placed third with a time of 43.38.
Slade Harding (Malden, Mass.) led the Pride in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:08.30 while Jeremiah Singer (Barnstable, Mass.) clocked 2:02.61 in the 800-meter run. Ty Sanges (Gloversville, N.Y.) was the top finisher for Springfield in the 500-meter dash with a time of 16:03.59.
In the decathlon, Jeffrey Gao (Cambridge, Mass.) finished second overall with 4969 points. In Saturday's competition, Gao finished second in the 110-meter hurdles at 16.80 and in the pole vault with a mark of 3.40-meters. He went on to finish third in the discus throw with a mark of 23.31-meters, in the javelin throw with a mark of 26.49-meters and in the 1500-meters at 5:14.08.
The Pride will compete in the New England Division III Championships hosted by Springfield College on Friday and Saturday.
