Box Score Hoboken, N.J. - March 9, 2016 - The Springfield College men's lacrosse team was outscored 7-1 in the final 30 minutes of play as it was defeated by No. 20 Stevens, 11-6, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Ducks, ranked 20th in the latest USILA National Coaches Poll, moved to 4-1 on the year, while the Pride dropped its second-straight contest to fall to 1-2.
Stevens opened the scoring 2:17 into the affair, as junior Connor McKeon collected a pass of senior Connor O'Shea and scored. The Pride would respond with a pair of goals from Kevin Dean (Westhampton, N.Y.) 28 seconds apart, but senior Matt Ferentini leveled the score at two.
Ferentini would complete his hat trick in the second quarter, netting the two markers of the frame to put the hosts up 4-2 at the 6:52 mark. However, the Pride would tally the final three goals of the quarter, with Dom Abate (Beverly, Mass.) pumping in a pair, including a man-up strike with 18 seconds left to give Springfield a 5-4 lead at the half.
The host Ducks would open the second half with a 4-0 spurt, capped with freshman Eric Radbourne and sophomore Tommy Dawson connecting on man-up goals. After Abate completed his hat trick and snapped the Stevens run with 11 ticks left in the third, the hosts would score the final three goals of the afternoon, capped with a marker from Ferentini.
Stevens held a 41-31 edge in shots and went 15-of-21 in the "X." Freshman Carson White made 12 saves in the win, while Chris Santaniello (West Springfield, Mass.) made 10 saves in the setback for the Pride.
Springfield will face 17th-ranked Union on Saturday afternoon in a neutral site event as it plays in the annual Supervisor's Lacrosse Challenge at Burns Park in Massapequa, N.Y. First whistle is set for 1:00 pm.
