Men's Soccer Drops Season Opener to UMass-Boston, 2-1

Boston, Mass. - September 4, 2021 - The Springfield College men's soccer program fell to UMass-Boston by a score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at James Cotter Field. 

Springfield holds a record of 0-1, while the Beacons are 2-0 to start the 2021 campaign. Each program presented four shots on goal in the contest and Springfield held the edge in corner kicks, 5-1. 

Springfield held the Beacons scoreless for much of the first frame, until midfielder Nilton De Andrade tapped in a deflected shot to give UMass-Boston the 1-0 heading into halftime. At 57:43 in the second half, the Pride were able to even the game at 1-1 after Jack Rosenberg (Simsbury, Conn.) fired a free kick past the UMass-Boston defense for the score.  The Beacons would regain the lead with 3:18 remaining in the game as De Andrade narrowly snuck in a shot for his second goal, which proved to be the game winner.  Chris Prizio (Trumbull, Conn.) made two saves in the setback.

Springfield will return to action as they travel to Sarah Lawrence at 7:00 on Tuesday, September 7.
