Box Score 2 Worcester, Mass. - April 29, 2022 - In a battle between two regionally ranked opponents, the Springfield College softball program dropped both games of its doubleheader against WPI by scores of 10-1 and 9-1 on Friday afternoon in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
Springfield will look to bounce back with a doubleheader at Wheaton tomorrow at 12.

WPI 10, Springfield 2
The Engineers went up 3-0 early after Sheehan hit an RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the second inning. The Pride would edge into the lead in the top of the fourth as back-to-back sacrifice bunts put Kristen Acocella (Redding, Conn.) in scoring position and eventually be brought home from a sacrifice fly from Sara Mulligan (Cheshire, Conn.) to make the score 3-1.
WPI pushed its lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth off another RBI base hit that scored two runs. Acocella brought in a run in the top of the fifth to chip into the deficit and bring the score to 5-2, however, WPI earned five more runs to close out the game in the bottom of the fifth to take the victory.
WPI 9, Springfield 1
WPI opened up the game with six unanswered runs to own a 6-0 lead after two innings. In the top of the third, Mackenzie Doyle (Glocester, R.I.) hit a lead off single and later stole second to provide some momentum for Springfield. With two outs, Callie Gendron (Berlin,Conn.) laid a double through the right side to score Doyle and give the Pride its first run of the game.
The Engineers produced three more runs to complete the sweep in five innings.
