Box Score 2 Norton, Mass. - April 30, 2022- The Springfield College softball program was swept by Wheaton by scores of 6-4 and 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Clark Softball Field in the New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season finale.
Springfield closes the regular season with a 26-12 record and 11-7 in conference play. The Pride will now focus on the NEWMAC Championship Tournament beginning next week.

Wheaton 6, Springfield 4
Springfield starred down a 5-1 deficit after three innings as the Lyons posted eight hits over the span to take the lead. The Pride's rally began in the top of the fourth as Ava Fernandez (Cedar Grove, N.J.) hit her first-career home run in the lead off spot for the Pride to make the score 5-2. Springfield scored two more runs off RBI hits from Sam Witmer (Drexel Hill, Pa.) and Sara Mulligan (Cheshire, Conn.) to close the deficit to 5-4 in the top of the fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Lyons scored off a base hit to own a 6-4 lead. The Pride had chances to tie, however left three runners on base in the last two innings.
Wheaton 2, Springfield 1
Wheaton scored first in the second game as a Barton sacrifice fly brought in Zito, who took a base on balls to lead off the game in the first inning. The Pride were unable to tie the game until the fourth inning when Fernandez advanced off a Callie Gendron (Berlin, Conn.) single through the left side and later scored because of a throwing error to lock the game at 1-1. Wheaton had a rebuttal in the fourth as a single to left scored a run to put the home team ahead 2-1 and later proved to be the game winning run.
