Springfield, Mass. – November 22, 2023 – Three student-athletes from the Springfield College men's soccer program were recently named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team for their efforts on the field and in the classroom this year.
The 2023 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
In order to be eligible, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.50 or higher, compete in 90-percent of the team's games played OR start in at least 66-percent of the team's games over the course of the season.
This year's Springfield College men's soccer recipients included sophomore midfielder
Ryan Berecz (Fairfield, Conn.), senior defender
Jack Habersaat (Boston, Mass.) and senior midfielder
Maitoe Suppasuesanguan (Bangongpang, Bangkok).
Berecz sports a 4.00 grade point average and appeared in all 17 games for the Pride this fall. The midfielder registered his first collegiate goal, which proved to be the game winner, on September 12 in a 1-0 non-conference win over Curry.
Habersaat, a sport management major with a cumulative grade point average of 3.70, was a key member of the Springfield defensive unit this fall. The senior defender appeared in all 17 games and made 14 starts, both new career-highs for Habersaat. He tallied his first collegiate goal this fall in a 2-0 road non-conference win at Skidmore.
Suppasuesanguan, a finance and accounting major with a cumulative grade point average of 3.89, played and started in 16 of Springfield's 17 contests this year. The senior midfielder posted one goal and one assist for three points as both came in a 4-0 win over Framingham State on September 26.
All three student-athletes were crucial pieces for Springfield College men's soccer as they guided the Pride to eight shutouts on the season and to the program's first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament appearance since 2021.
