Box Score

New Haven, Conn. – March 15, 2023 - The Springfield College men's lacrosse team picked up its first victory of the season as it raced past Endicott, 18-12, on Wednesday evening in Reese Stadium at Yale University.

The Pride, coming off a pair of games against teams ranked in the top five in the country, improved to 1-4 on the year as its offense erupted for 18 goals after previously scoring 27 through the first four outings.  The Gulls evened their record to 3-3.

Conor Tracy (Walpole, Mass.) was dynamic on the offense end as he pumped in six goals to go along with two assists, while Riley Burgmyer (Somers, Conn.) contributed four goals and two helpers for the Pride.  Alek Turi (Glastonbury, Conn.) chipped in three goals as part of his four-point effort and Jack Hamilton  (Falmouth, Mass.) totaled nine stops in goal.  Steven Betsch (Port Washington, N.Y.) picked up 10 ground balls as he went 17-for-29 on face-offs and Connor Roberts (Somers, Conn.) contributed five caused turnovers and five ground balls.

The Gulls jumped out to a 3-1 advantage just over five minutes into the game, only to have the Pride string together eight unanswered goals over a nearly 17-minute span.  The run started whe Burgmyer just beat the shot clock on a bid from range at 6:49 before Kevin Tierney (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Tracy would close out the quarter with strikes to give Springfield its first lead of the game with 2:33 left in the opening frame.

Springfield poured in five goals to start the second quarter, highlighted by Burgmyer stinging the top corner on the run at 8:20 and Turi going behind the back for a man-up marker with 5:18 on the clock to push the Pride's advantage to 9-3.

The Pride would string together a four-goal spurt spanning the third and fourth quarters as its lead would balloon to 15-7 with 12:35 remaining in regulation on Turi's third of the game.  The Gulls would make one final push, scoring four goals in just over four minutes, but Tracy would take over down the stretch with three goals in a 1:19 span as Springfield cruised to the non-conference win.

Springfield will begin New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday when it travels to Wheaton for a 1 pm tilt.
