Babson Park, Mass. – April 22, 2023 – The Springfield College softball team picked up a doubleheader split in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday at Babson.  The Beavers rallied for a 6-5 win in the first before the Pride coasted to an 11-3 triumph in five innings in the second contest.

With the split, Springfield improved to 29-7, 10-4 against conference foes, while Babson dropped to 18-17, 7-7.

Game One:

In the opener, Maggie Britt (Bridgeport, Conn.) went 4-for-4 at the plate, while Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) accounted for three hits and three RBI, and Breannah McCann (San Diego, Calif.) scored twice and had two hits.

After the Pride struck first in the second inning when McCann took advantage of a Babson error in the outfield to score from second, the hosts responded with two runs in the third inning following four singles.

Springfield would regain the lead in the sixth inning, as with the bases loaded and two outs, DeRosa lifted a double to left center field to drive in three runs and give the Pride a 4-2 cushion.  The visitors tacked on a run in the seventh as Britt ripped a run-scoring single with runners on second and third to make it a three-run game.

However, Babson opened up the bottom of the seventh with five-straight hits to tie the game up and would eventually draw a bases loaded walk to force in the game-winning run.

Game Two:

Kristen Acocella (Redding, Conn.) drove in four runs in the second game and Ashley Pugliese (Huntington Station, N.Y.) improved to 7-0 in the circle as the Pride cruised to an 11-3 win to earn the split.  Springfield wasted no time jumping all over Babson with five runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run double down the line from Acocella and a single that drove in a pair by Breannah McCann.

After Babson responded with a run in both the first and second innings, the Pride blew the game open in the fifth inning with six runs off five hits.  Acocella again provided the spark as she ripped a two-run single up the middle to conclude Springfield's scoring.  Babson would account for one run in the bottom of the fifth.
