Springfield, Mass. – May 21, 2025 – Headlined by three major awards from the league office this season, the Springfield College men's lacrosse team took home ten New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) postseason accolades in 2025.
In his final year on the sidelines with the Pride after 42 seasons,
Keith Bugbee was named NEWMAC Men's Lacrosse Coach of the Year along with his staff of
Ryon Lynch,
Zach Chandler,
Jackson Lalonde and
Steve Sheffield who garnered the title of Coaching Staff of the Year this season. These five led Springfield to the outright NEWMAC regular season title for the first time since 2016 and hosted the NEWMAC title game on Stagg for the first time since 2017 after a perfect 7-0 record in conference play.
A season after being named NEWMAC Rookie of the Year,
Jake Degnan (Mahopac, N.Y.) was named as the league's Athlete of the Year for his stellar sophomore campaign. Degnan is the first in NEWMAC men's lacrosse history to earn both Rookie of the Year honors and Athlete of the Year honors over the course of their careers and he did it in back-to-back seasons. In 17 games, Degnan recorded 40 goals and 15 assists for 55 points for the Pride as he ranked third in the NEWMAC in goals and sixth in the league in total points. In just 34 career games on Alden Street, Degnan has 87 goals, 24 assists and 111 points.
Jackson Lane (Shrewsbury, Mass.) took home his first NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Year award after finishing an outstanding collegiate career at Springfield. This season alone, Lane registered 51 ground balls and caused 14 turnovers as not only the best defensive player in the conference, but in the region as well. Lane's career stretched six seasons on Alden Street with him recording 247 ground balls and causing 61 turnovers. He also added 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points to his career stat line.
Degnan and Lane were joined on the NEWMAC All-Conference First Team by
Brady Soldo (Shrewsbury, Mass.),
Toby Oliveira (Little Compton, R.I.) and
Gavin Carzello (Westfield, Mass.). Additionally,
Kevin Tierney (Glastonbury, Conn.),
Angus Oliveira (Little Compton, R.I.),
Vincent Scialdone (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and
Kaden Quirk (Nahant, Mass.) earned spots on the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team.
Soldo recorded 17 goals and 12 assists for 29 points to go along with 12 ground balls and a caused turnover,
Toby Oliveira registered 29 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers and Carzello notched 61 ground balls an 15 caused turnovers in addition to five goals and three assists for eight points. Carzello's 61 ground balls ranked second on the team in 2025 only behind Scialdone.
Tierney finished the season ranked first on the team in assists with 19 to go along with the second-most goals with 21 and second-most points with 40. Tierney also registered 23 ground balls and five caused turnovers. Angus Oliveira had a stellar rookie campaign totaling 40 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers, the most on the team, while Scialdone won 53.1-percent of the face-offs he took (170-for-320) and scooped up a team-high 66 ground balls.
Quirk started in all 17 games between the pipes for Springfield as he made 169 saves (50.6 save percentage) and produced ten wins. Quirk also recorded 27 ground balls, caused five turnovers and dished out an assist for the Pride.
