In his time on Alden Street, Lynch established himself as one of the top swimmers in the nation, as he became the first Springfield College swimmer to receive the Robert B. Muir Award as the most outstanding swimmer in the New England Championship.  As the first swimmer in New England to break five minutes in the 500 free, Lynch shined on the national stage as well and was a member of the 1970 NCAA Small College National Champion 400 yard medley relay team, swimming the butterfly leg. 

He played a key role in Springfield winning three-straight New England Championships, as well as Springfield finishing second as a team at the 1972 NCAA College Division Championship, the highest-ever finish for a Springfield College team prior to the divisional breakdowns of I, II, and III.  Lynch would conclude his outstanding career at Springfield the owner of seven school records and three New England records.

After Springfield College, Lynch would go on to have a decorated professional career, first as a sports communications professional at St. Cloud State and Rutgers before transitioning to a high school teacher and coach in Jersey.  In his time as the head boys and girls swimming coach at Ocean Township High School, he won three Shore Conference Coach of the Year and 14 Shore Conference Championships.
