-Compiled a record of 58-33-7 as Head Football Coach at Springfield College, 1946-57

-Winning percentage of .628, second highest at Springfield College (minimum 5 years of service)

-Coached 1956 team to an undefeated record of 8-0-1 to win the Lambert Trophy as the top small college in the East

-Earned several regional and national "Coach of the Year" honors

-Coached numerous athletes who have been named to various All-America teams and inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame

-Brought the "Burning of the Old Shoe" ritual to Springfield College which symbolized the "burning of all regrets and misunderstandings" that may have occurred during the season.

-Served as head football coach at Luther College (1920), Drake University (1922-31), University of Iowa (1932-36) and Syracuse University (1937-45) compiling an overall record of 159-117-20 (includes Springfield College)
