A standout with the football program during his time at Springfield College, Wilson earned All-America honors during his time on the gridiron on Alden Street.  He ranks fifth in program history for receiving yards in a single season as he hauled in 36 receptions for 562 yards during the 1971 campaign.

His coaching career began at Springfield College before he served as the offensive coordinator at Northeastern and the running backs coach at Cal-Berkeley. Following his time in the NFL's Minority Coaching Fellowship Program, Wilson landed his first full-time NFL coaching gig in 1991 when he was named the running backs coach with the Atlanta Falcons.  Wilson would go on to have a decorated coaching career in the professional ranks as he worked in the NFL from 1991-2016.  In addition to mentoring Craig "Ironhead" Heyward, who was a Pro Bowl pick in 1995, Wilson coached NFL Hall of Famer LaDanian Tomlinson with the San Diego Chargers, who would go on to rank fifth in NFL history in career rushing yards (13,684), second in career rushing touchdowns (145), and third in touchdowns from scrimmage (162).

A native of Worcester, Wilson was inducted into the Worcester Public Schools Athletic Hall of Fame in May 2016.
