- A very successful man in many respects - including as a football coach, a distinguished professor, a politician, an author, a pilot, and a family man

- As a coach, he never had a losing season, earning nine straight league championships at Amityville High School on Long Island

- That feat has never been duplicated in more than 70 years of Long Island high school football

- He is the only high school coach ever to be included into the Long Island Sports Hall of Fame. He is also a National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame coach

- Amityville High School has its field named after him

- Declared one of Babylon's (N.Y.) 100 Most Influential People of the 20th Century

- Armed with a Ph.D. in aerospace technology; helped develop SUNY-Farmingdale's aerospace program, serving as its first chairman

- Wrote a textbook teaching pilots how to fly the instrument landing system

- Appointed to serve on a federal advisory committee to help design the first space shuttle for NASA

- Commemorated the 50th anniversary of Charles Lindbergh's famous transatlantic flight, landing in LeBourget Field just outside of Paris

- Served as the Mayor of Amityville and as a New York State Assemblyman
