Chandler was a three-year varsity starter on the men's soccer team and captain of the 1974 squad under legendary coach Irv Schmid. During his time on Alden Street, Chandler led Springfield to a combined record of 34-14-4, claiming three New England Championships as well as back to back appearances in the NCAA Division II Elite 8 in 1972 and 1973. To date, he remains seventh in program history in careers goals (24), fourth in career assists (20), and is sixth in total points (68).

After his time on Alden Street, Chandler would go on to make his mark in the professional and international ranks.  He played for the Hartford Bicentennials and the Tampa Bay Rowdies for six years, and in 1976, Chandler played for Team America together with Pele', Giorgio Chinaglia, and Bobby Moore, competing against the National Teams of Italy, Brazil and England.  He would continue to represent his country and earn three international caps playing with the United States National Team against Mexico, Costa Rica and Argentina.

After his time on the soccer field, Chandler made his impact as a physical educator, coach, and athletic director in Colorado.  He helped the Peak to Peak Charter School win the boys soccer state championship in 2005, and girls soccer state titles in 2012 and 2013, as he collected a number of coach of the year accolades during his tenure.
